Opal Play at South Gosforth First School
We have recently introduced a whole school approach to playtimes called OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning). We believe that outdoor play is essential for children’s physical, emotional, social and intellectual development. There is a lot of research that says time playing outdoors is well spent and that children sleep more, eat better and are happier from time spent outside. Our mission is to provide all our children with this opportunity every day, allowing our children to be creative and explore the world around us. OPAL is not about spending a lot of money on play equipment. It places a great emphasis on using what we already have and using free and cheap natural and man-made resources that allow children to be inspired at playtimes.
As an Opal school, we ask that children have wellies and a coat in school every day as we love to be outdoors in all weathers. More information about OPAL can be found on their website https://outdoorplayandlearning.org.uk/
